with spins flat tires and a 5 car pile up. Tim managed to make the dash
and Feature with no problems but finished 16th in the "A". It was the 5
car pile up that ended Tim's chances,a tangle with Dolansky as they were
trying to miss the carnage sent him and 4 others to the pits before the
the final laps. Saturday is night two and lets take a positive outlook
with the Jumbo full moon predicted for tonight. Lets hope it assists the
track lighting and we get a good clean race.

It was a chilly night in Ohio, temps in the 40's. Even with the cold temperatures there were 32 sprints (410) on hand for the season opener. Tim locked the CH Motorsports #83 into the thirty lap A-main after finishing 3rd in his heat (started 7th) race. Tim now had a 11th place starting spot in the "A"......The battle in the "A" was close one. The top 6 cars were nose to tail and side-by-side. In the end Shaffer finished 4th overall. Next stop, All-Stars @ Attica for a two day show, April 6 & 7. GO TIM!!

I
made the trip to Ocala for the finale and witnessed a very frustrating
night for Tim and the rest of us. Tim timed well, made the transfer from
the heat. A win in the dash put him on the pole for the "A". Despite some
challenges from eventual winner Danny Lasoski Tim seemed to
have the advantage. That's when out of the corner of my eye I saw Tim
going backwards, I mean literally! In avoiding a lapped car that moved
into his line, Tim spun the car and backed in to the wall right after the
pit gate. Tim was not hurt and the car did not appear to be severely
damaged but Tim's night was over. It was not Tim's best speed week
ever, but then he has had some dominate ones. The good side was he was in
the game for all the ASCoC races and garnered some points to build on
during the long season. The crew seemed to work well together and the car
set up were good. We look forward to the Spring Nationals opener up north
at Attica (April 6th-7th).
30 lap feature saw Kistler Engines Fast Qualifier Dave Gravel start 4th after his 12.894 second lap. On lap 5 the leader, Tim Shaffer, ran into lapped traffic, literally, and bounced off the turn 1 wall ending his night. The final 25 were led by Danny Holtgraver, laps 6-12, and Danny Lasoski, 13-30. Lasoski matched the driver he sponsors while Aaron Ott, Holtgraver, Greg Hodnett, and Fred Rahmer completed the top 5. Do not have a detailed report for last nights action, as
you can see Tim finished a respectable 7th. You can also see that very
little passing was accomplished last night. With record high temps (85+)
and wind, track prep is a real challenge. I am headed over there tonight
with a race time temp of 60 and low in the high 40's its going to be a
real shock to my Florida system. But it will be worth it to see a good
race. They
are good friends off the track, but on the track they are fierce
competitors. I am sorry I missed this one. Tim qualified 2nd quick on the
reconfigured Bubba Raceway Park. Tim made the transfer through heat 3,
finished 6th in the dash for a 6th place start in the (A). I turned into a
3 battle in the "A" with Tim finished 3rd while pressing 2nd place
finisher Dale Blaney. 2 Nights left in Florida speedweeks! Go Tim!

A bad break for the Call/Hollbrook 83 ended the night
way to early. A very inexpensive part broke on the magneto prior to
qualifying, and proved to be a tough fix. Rather then change the motor and
risk not having enough back up for next weeks All Star race at Ocala, the
team decided to pass on today's racing in order to get ready. The points
race was close last year and you don't want to question a decision early
on that could take you out of it. It took a long time for track prep, so the drivers had plenty of time before the two hot lap sessions to spend visiting with the fans and fellow drivers. Not
a good night for most of the "Big Guns" Tim was one of the lucky ones that
did not have to run the "B'. Tim was 21st quick and made the transfer from
his heat but started in the back for the "A". Tim was busy passing cars
when a yellow flew, and although I could not see 1 and 2 from my end of
the infield I realized that Tim was involved. Apparently it was a spin
with no contact and that took away all of his progress and more. With the
laps left, Tim made a couple of passes but had to settle for 16th.
Hopefully the pill draw and will be better tonight and the weather holds
up, so that we can get a better finish.

much better night for Tim in the Call/Holbrook 83. Tim was 10th fast

| WINTER FREEZE NIGHT 2 SYLVANIA, GA. (2-11-12) |
|
Sorry for the lateness of the reports my partner Scott
is in the Hospital and we wish him a quick recovery. Night 2 of the Winter Freeze lived up to its name. I was at Ocala Fl. a couple of hundred miles south and had 5 layers of clothes on to keep warm. Reports were coming out of Georgia of a wind chill factor of 18 degrees and ice on the track. The C&H sprinter was 14th quick and Won the 2nd heat.
A 9th place finish in the "A" was the best Tim could do in the cold
conditions. No doubt the 83 is fast and I am sure the "Steel City
Outlaws" first 2012 victory is not far away. |
